Driving time from Redding is about an hour and a half (this is mountain driving, so mileage is less important than road conditions); from the coast, about two and a half hours. Our communities have colorful names like Bear Wallow, 13 Dips, Coffee Creek, Peanut and Hayfork. As you can imagine, football and fishing are for keeps here. Our neighbors are ranchers, farmers, loggers, teachers, doctors, writers, vineyard owners, businesspeople and telecommuters of all persuasions.
Hayfork and Weaverville have elementary, junior high and high school, while many of the smaller towns have K through grade school. We have several campus locations for Shasta College and Weaverville has a full-service hospital. There are drama groups, quilters' guilds, music ensembles, hiking clubs, 4-H, equestrian competitions, you name it! Real estate is similarly eclectic . . . historical sites, victorian homes, cabins, houses, mobiles, mansions . . . something for everyone- and prices most Californians haven't seen for generations!
